Fifty-eight years ago tonight at 10:15PM, Halifax MZ589 took off from Durham County in Yorkshire and was never seen again. The anniversary of the loss of the seven young men aboard is hereby duly noted. Two years from now the crew of MZ589 will be missing for exactly 60 years, I have significant plans in the works to ensure that the 60th anniversary of the sacrifices made on that fateful night will never be forgotten.

The 431 Squadron Operational Records Book is finally in my hands courtesy of the National Archives and my mother in law who is a local librarian. I have had to reacquaint myself with microfilm readers as it is entirely on film. The books have yielded a great deal of previously unknown information and I now have a listing of every operation that the crew participated in as well the aircraft they flew etc. In light of this I have added and activated the Operations page, eventually I hope to trace the history of all crews that participated in the Collver crew's operations.

May 30, 2003

A couple of other exciting developments have occurred since the last update. With the help of Richard Koval I have made contact with Joseph Collver's younger brother and he has graciously supplied some photos and information on his brother. As a result I have activated the crew section of the website, I will be adding links about the service of the crew members as well as some biographical information. I now have photos of three of the seven crewmembers, one day this site will boast a photo of each one and hopefully a group shot.  I have a partial list of the ops the crew participated in, I await the Operational Record Books from the National Archives to form a complete list.

I have also just recently visited the RCAF Museum in Trenton, Ontario where a Halifax bomber is being restored, I will be adding a Halifax section soon.

March 30, 2003

The links page has been activated.

An exciting development occurred today. Through the co-operation of the Nanton Lancaster Society, I have received a photograph of another crew member of Halifax MZ589. Nanton, Alberta was the home town of Mid-Upper Gunner P.O Robert Arthur Leman, his photograph and service biography is on display at the museum. Through an inquiry I placed in the Guest Book on the museum's website, I was able to learn about the photograph the museum had and ultimately acquire a copy. I've since joined the Nanton Lancaster Society, be sure to drop into their website and make a donation to a wonderful organization committed to preserving Canadian Aviation history.

Virtual Halifax Update!!

Work on the 3D Hali continues, I have spent a great deal of time detailing the guns found on the Fraser Nash Mid Upper turret. The nose turret, canopy and horizontal stabilizers have also been added.

February 20th, 2003

I have at last received P/O W.G. Sorel's military service records, I now have firm dates of his postings, promotions etc. Look for a crew section to soon be added to the site once other information on the crew becomes available.

December 15, 2002

First major Site update since November 11, 2002 launch.

Other news:

I have begun work on a 3D model of the Halifax Mk.III, I am a professional 3D modeler and in spite of this have found the task to be a very substantial challenge. Once completed, the virtual Halifax will be available on this site to view and guests will be able to rotate the model to any viewpoint they choose, zoom in and out etc. Have a look at the fuselage assembly below.

I am also in the process of acquiring a domain name and host for this site, I have a domain name in mind and it is available, hopefully a true domain name will add some traffic to the site.
