The aircraft departed
Elsham Wolds at 2108hrs
but failed
to return. Six
of the seven men aboard were able to abandon the aircraft after
leaving the target area and either evaded capture or became POWs.
The pilot, F/O Sarvis of the United States Army Air Force, was
killed when the aircraft crashed near Liesville (France). The

wreckage of the Lancaster was not found until 1989.
