Flying Officer Edwin Essenburg was serving as Bomb Aimer on board Halifax MKBIII NP942 coded ZL-T for an  operation to bomb the the Rhenani Ossag synthetic oil refinery at Monheim on February 20/20, 1945. The aircraft departed Leeming at 2147hrs but failed to return, F/O Essenburg and P/O Wallace were killed.
