Gilson was piloting Halifax Mk.VII NP744 coded EQ-K during a
daylight operation to Dusseldorf on November 2, 1944. The aircraft departed
Linton-on-Ouse at 1618hrs but crashed behind allied lines in
Belgium, four of the seven man crew perished in
the crash, including F/O Vernon Gilson. The
